Case Details
According to “Off The Wall: Death in Yosemite” by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Charles R. Farabee, F. P. Shepherd is the first person known to have completely vanished inside of Yosemite National Park.
The last known location where witnesses place F.P. Shepherd was at/near the Glacier Point Hotel. A search was underway for approximately 4 days by the U.S. Calvary; bloodhounds were called after search efforts were deemed ineffective. A search of the cliffs above Illilouette Falls and the Merced River.
Fog was reported to have hampered search efforts, and much speculation continues to surround the presence of fog as being attributed to missing persons cases.
