As of August 4, 2021, the search for Richard Judd has been scaled back.

A spokesperson for Yosemite National Park, Scott Gediman, indicated that the search has entered “limited continuous search mode,” a case status signifying that a smaller number of people will be assigned to the effort, even after a day pack was found – among a few other clues – which National Park Service Rangers are investigating.

At last sighting, Judd was wearing a blue shirt and gray pants, and was using white trekking poles while carrying a navy blue day pack. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds, and has short graying hair and a beard. He was last known to be hiking the Lower Merced Pass Lake to Red Peak Pass at Yosemite National Park.
