Case Details
Teresa Lynn Gibson attended a field trip with at least 30 of her classmates in the Great Smoky Mountains on October 8, 1976. From Clingmans Dome, they were going to hike 1.8 miles to Andrew’s Bald Trail.
Once everyone would arrive at the trail, the students were allowed to separate into small groups depending on how fast they wanted to hike. Only one teacher was supervising all the students.
At around 3 pm, near Clingmans Dome, some of her classmates said Teresa left the trail to inspect something she saw. That was the last time she was seen. Search efforts to find Gibson included helicopters and dog teams, but she was never found.
