The hiker reported going on a day hike alone, but it was not unusual for her to do this, according to her family.

Avakian’s body was found on Saturday, March 13, 2021. At around 3:00p on Thursday, March 11, 2021, Avakian’s vehicle was located near the Buckhorn Day Use Area, along the Angeles Crest Highway.

Missing NPF will label this location her last known location; a recent snow storm had swept the area prior to the discovery of her vehicle. A search and rescue operation was conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office. The search was halted on Friday around 2:00a, but resumed a few hours later, according to numerous sources. Public assistance was discouraged by law enforcement officials during the official Search and Rescue operation.
