Case Details
Kassandra Caceres, 30, and Wayne Beckford, 28, were found deceased at the bottom of Dorr Mountain by a volunteer search party on March 20, 2021.
When the couple did not check out of their hotel on Friday, March 19, 2021, they were reported missing to the National Park Service by family members.
That Friday night, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescue team was dispatched from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and performed an aerial search – they were unsuccessful. Saturday morning, March 20, they continued their search using thermal imaging technology, but they could not locate the missing couple.
Continuing the search that Saturday morning, a 15-member volunteer-search team from Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue performed a ground search and located the bodies about 100′ bellow iced-covered cliffs on Dorr Mountain.
On Monday, March 22, 2021, the National Park Service confirmed the identities of the two bodies.
The couple arrived in Bar Harbor on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, and was last heard from on Thursday, March 18, 2021, when Kassandra called family members to mention they were going to hike on Cadillac Mountain.
