About Kenneth Kleins's case

Kenneth Klein, 23, and John Gunn, 19, were both last seen on July 28, 1967. They were both salesmen at Yosemite Lodge Chevron, and they had planned a hiking trip from Camp 4 to Eagle Peak on the day they were last seen.

Prior to heading out on the hike, both Klein and Gunn spoke with a Seventh Day Adventist Minister who was also planning to hike that same day; the three men agreed to rendezvous at the top of the peak.

Klein and Gunn only planned to hike for that day due to Gunn having to work a late shift starting at 11:00 pm. When neither of the two showed up for work on July 29, and their roommate, Greg Jackson, told officials they were not in the tent Friday night, search teams took action. During one of the search efforts, Klein’s motorcycle was found near a government woodcutting site, one mile west of El Capitan Bridge. No other signs of the two men’s whereabouts were found.

Search efforts ended on August 5, 1967.

On September 4, 1967, a body was found deep in a pool above Yosemite Falls by two brothers who were hiking in the area. Gunn’s father was asked to try and identify the remains while authorities tried to identify the body through dental records.

No other information has been found confirming that the body’s identity was either Klein or Gunn.
