Searchers inside Zion National Park were still looking late Thursday for a 79-year-old man who had gone missing inside the park after his vehicle was found at the Canyon Overlook Trail.
John Fiske Burg, who was described as 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen leaving the La Quinta hotel in Kanab at about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, according to park officials.
Burg had been staying at the hotel with a group of 50 hikers and had said he might be hiking the Canyon Overlook Trail. His vehicle was found at the trailhead for that hike but it was unknown at what time he had arrived.
Searchers asked for anyone who sees a man matching Burg's description to contact the National Park Service tip line at 888-653-0009. He could be wearing a small yellow jacket, blue osprey backpack, shorts, ankle-high hiking boots and a white visor hat with a neck guard, according to the park.
