This case is being listed due to the hiker being reported lost in the High Tor Wildlife Management Area – land that is federally managed by the DEC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife for wildlife conservation and wildlife-associated recreation. – – – Some sources state that the four hikers were lost in/near the Perish Gully. It is Missing NPF's understanding that the Perish Gully is also known as Conklin's Gully, and the locational data will therefore list "Conklin's Gully". If further research proves otherwise, Missing NPF will update this data.
On March 20, 2021 at around 4:20p, four hikers got lost in the High Tor Wildlife Management Area.
One of the hikers, being a 20-year-old male, fell in the Conklin's Gully and injured his leg. When this incident was reported the injured hiker, and his 3 friends, were located by the collective efforts of a Forest Ranger, Ontario County Ropes Rescue Team, a DEC Environmental Conservation Police Officer and DEC Bureau of Environmental Crimes Investigation officer, and the Naples Fire Department.
The hiker was lifted out of the gully onto a UTV (an off-road vehicle), and was not transported to a local hospital, per the request of the injured hiker, and instead attempted to find medical assistance on his own.
