MARBLEMOUNT, Wash. - The Skagit County Sheriff's Office has suspended its search for a hiker who went missing over a week ago in the North Cascades, officials confirmed.
The hiker, Thomas Simonseth, 66, of Mount Vernon, left the morning of May 22 for a day hike up the Hidden Lake Trail about nine miles east of Marblemount. He was expected home by 7 p.m. but didn't show up.
The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office launched an official search for Simonseth the next day with assistance from Skagit County search-and-rescue crews and other county and municipal search groups from Western Washington.
The search continued each day until Sunday but Simonseth was never located.
