Gabrielle Smith's last known location was last known to be in Red River Gorge. The exact location was not released, however, Powell County Search and Rescue teams were able to pinpoint her last known location from Smith's last cellphone ping, and GPS coordinates from her smartwatch.
Smith went hiking at Red River Gorge on Monday, May 3, 2021, in an effort to break in a new pair of hiking boots and to get in shape for a future hiking trip with friends.
When Smith's family lost contact with her, she was reported missing on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Rescue teams, including Powell County Search & Rescue, the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team and the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, scrambled on Tuesday to find Smith after she was reported missing.
